A lake that gives anglers options.

Whether you are after bass, crappie or a true trophy fish, Green River Lake can support anything from a relaxed family trip to a serious fishing weekend.

Fishing Green River Lake

A real fishing destination, not just a pretty lake.

Green River Lake supports a broad sport fishery with largemouth, smallmouth and spotted bass, black and white crappie, muskellunge, walleye, white bass, channel catfish and bluegill. That mix gives anglers a reason to come back in different seasons and target something completely different.

Boat ramps, shoreline access and fishing piers make it practical for guests bringing a boat or fishing from shore. The Green River Lake Tailwater below the dam also provides quality bank fishing and small-boat access.

Hunting around Green River Lake

This is a major reason many guests come to the area.

For a lot of people, Green River Lake is not just a boating destination. The surrounding WMA makes the area attractive for deer, turkey, squirrel, rabbit, quail, dove and waterfowl seasons, with a lot of room to spread out and multiple public access corridors around the lake.

What hunters like about the area

  • Large public-land footprint wrapping around the lake and coves
  • More than 83% forested habitat with ridge, creek and shoreline terrain
  • Deer, turkey, waterfowl, squirrel, rabbit, quail, dove and seasonal quota opportunities
  • Room at Kozy Haven for trucks, trailers, gear and muddy boots outside the cabin

Staying at Kozy Haven means staying in Columbia, Kentucky, not on Green River Lake itself. You remain a short drive from Holmes Bend and the south side of the lake while coming back to a private cabin instead of a campground-only option.

Whitetail deer hunting

Thousands of acres of public deer habitat surround the lake.

Green River Lake WMA covers 21,019 acres across Adair and Taylor counties and is more than 83% forested. That combination of wooded ridges, openings, creek arms and lake-edge habitat makes deer hunting a major draw to the area.

Kentucky Fish & Wildlife lists the WMA as open under statewide fall rules with important exceptions. Muzzleloader deer seasons are closed, and modern-gun deer hunting is limited to the quota hunt, so hunters should check the current guide before planning dates.

Green River Lake WMA has real waterfowl opportunity.

According to Kentucky Fish & Wildlife, Green River Lake WMA allows walk-in or boat-in duck hunting on the lake or river. Season-long blind sites are drawn on the last Saturday in September. Walk-in hunters may use areas with permanent blind sites, but cannot hunt within 200 yards of an occupied blind.

Shooting hours: one-half hour before sunrise to 2 PM.
Entry: hunters may not enter before 4 AM.
